Manual Handling

Manual handling refers to any activity requiring a person to use any part of their muscular or skeletal system in their interactions with their work environment.

Manual handling includes carrying, pulling, pushing, lifting, holding, striking and throwing.

Manual handling also describes tasks that involve repetitive actions, sustained postures and exposure to vibration.

Northern Rehabilitation Management (NRM) can assist you with Manual Handling Training to both at risk individuals and groups as a preventative strategy.

This training will help employees to apply a risk assessment approach to manual handling through learning protective movement skills and applying these skills to practical manual handling challenges at the workplace.  Participants gain knowledge and practical skills.

NRM Manual Handling Sessions are tailored to meet the specific requirements and involve 1-2 hour sessions covering such topics as:

  • Introduction to Manual Handling
  • OHS Legislation and Manual Handling Risk Management
  • Mechanics of manual handling
  • Correct manual handling principles, techniques and postures
  • Practice of manual handling
  • Stretching exercises and other injury prevention strategies
  • General group discussion and problem solving
